Where to buy Chinese fashion online

Three of the six labels we cover will ship to you. What arrives is not what you paid — duty, import VAT and a carrier handling fee are added on delivery, and in the United States they can add more than half again. Here is the arithmetic, per territory and per label.

BY MEI 袂

The short answer

Three will ship to you. None are in any shop you know.

Songmont, Amazing Song and BAMPO sell internationally from their own sites. GROTTO and DISSONA we could not verify would take a European order at all. Qiu Zhen — third-best-selling bag brand in China — has no route whatsoever. And not one of the six is stocked by Nordstrom, Farfetch, Net-a-Porter or Ssense.

Landed cost

What it costs to land

The price on the product page is not the price. Below £135 into the UK there is no duty; above it there is. The EU's duty-free allowance under €150 ended on 1 July 2026. And for the United States, a Chinese-origin handbag now carries three stacked tariffs at once.

Goods + shipping + duty

Below £135 no customs duty is charged on non-excise goods. Above it, duty applies at the tariff rate.

VAT is charged on the whole parcel value, not just the bag: goods, postage, insurance and the duty itself.

Carrier fees on top

  • Royal Mail — £8.00 handling
  • FedEx — 2.5% of duty and tax, minimum £12.90 (from 20 July 2026)
  • UPS — 3% of the amount advanced, minimum £13.65

European Union

The duty-free allowance under €150 ended on 1 July 2026. A temporary flat €3 duty now applies to parcels below that value, running to 1 July 2028. IOSS does not remove it.

Import VAT is calculated on customs value plus transport plus duty, in that order.

Carrier fees on top

  • Deutsche Post / DHL — €7.50 disbursement
  • FedEx — 2.5%, minimum €15.00, plus €2.40 inbound processing from 3 August 2026
  • UPS Germany — 3%, minimum €15.70 · UPS France — 3.05%, minimum €18.45

Duty-free de minimis treatment was suspended across all countries during 2026. There is no usable low-value relief for a Chinese-origin bag.

9% general rate on leather handbags, plus 25% under Section 301, plus 20% under IEEPA for goods of Chinese origin. State sales tax is separate and is collected by the seller, not at the border — 8.875% in New York City.

The arithmetic

A £320 bag, three destinations

Same bag, same day, three addresses. Shipping is assumed not to be charged separately — where it is, that amount is added to the customs value and taxed too, so these are floors.

Berlin

New York

The United States is the outlier and it is not close. A Chinese-origin leather handbag carries a 9% general rate, 25% under Section 301 and 20% under IEEPA — 54% before any state sales tax. On a $428 bag that is $231 of duty, and the low-value relief that used to cover it has gone.

山下有松
Songmont

■ Route exists

Route Its own international store, worldwide. Europe 5–12 working days, United States 8–12.

Duties Payable on arrival. The shipping policy states plainly that customs duties and fees are the recipient's responsibility.

Returns 30 days from delivery. Songmont covers return shipping for the US and EU; elsewhere the buyer pays to return the item to a US, European or Chinese warehouse. The FAQ does not say which hub applies, and does not mention the UK.

■ Route exists

Route Its own store, free worldwide shipping, with a published list of excluded countries.

Duties Payable on arrival. The policy states duties and fees are the recipient's.

Returns 15 days from receipt per the refund policy — the FAQ says 30, and the two disagree. Returns for a change of mind are paid by the buyer, to an address in Guangzhou.

半坡饰族
BAMPO

■ Route exists

Route Its own store, worldwide, with free shipping advertised.

Duties Prepaid for the US, EU, UK, Canada, Singapore, Australia and most other destinations — not universally. Free shipping above USD 100.

Returns 30-day window. A USD 30 relisting fee applies where there is no quality fault.

GROTTO

▨ Conditional

Route An English-language storefront exists at grotto.com.cn and will add to cart. No shipping or returns policy is published, so which countries it actually completes to is unverified.

▨ Conditional

Route Chinese site only. International checkout unverified.

Route None. No direct-to-consumer website exists; the brand sells through a Tmall flagship that ships domestically.

Duties Not applicable.

Checked 30 July 2026 by reading each brand's own store. Where a policy page was unreadable or empty, that is recorded rather than guessed at. MEI earns nothing from any route on this page.

Returns

Why returns matter more here

Returning a bag to China costs more than most people expect, and the duty you paid on the way in is not automatically refunded — reclaiming it is a separate process you have to start yourself.

Which makes one finding worth stating plainly: Songmont covers return shipping to the US and the EU, within 30 days of delivery. Everywhere else the buyer pays to send the bag back to a US, European or Chinese warehouse, and the FAQ does not say which of those applies — nor does it name the UK either way. For a US or EU buyer that is still the strongest returns term among the six, and it removes most of the risk of ordering from China. BAMPO offers 30 days but charges a restocking fee. Amazing Song publishes its terms but contradicts itself: the refund policy allows 15 days from receipt and the FAQ says 30. A buyer cannot rely on either number, and pays to ship the item back to Guangzhou.

One thing bags do make easy: there is no sizing to get wrong. The commonest reason clothing is returned does not apply.

The last resort

Forwarding services

A forwarding service gives you a Chinese address, receives the parcel and posts it on. It is how determined buyers get bags from labels with no international route — Qiu Zhen above all.

It also means no warranty, no returns, customs paperwork you file yourself, and no recourse if what arrives is not what was ordered. You are the importer of record, so every charge in the tables above lands on you, plus the forwarder's own fee.

We are not recommending it. We are recording that for one of the six labels it is the only option that exists, and that absence is the subject of the issue.

What remains unverified

Checked 30 July 2026
  • The 3% duty rate for leather handbags entering the UK and the EU comes from third-party tariff databases, not from the official UK Trade Tariff or the EU's TARIC — both of which block automated access. Two databases agree with each other, and their US figure matches a CBP ruling we verified directly, which is some corroboration but not confirmation. Check the official lookup before relying on it for a specific purchase.
  • The worked examples assume shipping is not charged separately. Where a brand charges for delivery, that amount is added to the customs value and taxed, so every total shown here is a floor rather than an estimate.
  • Resolved 23 August 2026 — the United States ended de minimis duty-free treatment for Chinese-origin goods at 12:01 a.m. EDT on 2 May 2025, per the Federal Register notice of 28 April 2025. Goods at or under $800 must now be entered under an appropriate entry type. The suspension was extended to all origins on 29 August 2025; MEI has not verified that second date against a primary source.
  • US carrier brokerage fees for low-value parcels were not verified and are not included in the New York total.
  • GROTTO and DISSONA: whether any international checkout exists at all remains unverified. Neither was found at any Western retailer.
  • Amazing Song's shipping and returns pages were empty when checked. Its duties treatment is unstated, so a buyer has no way to know what will be charged on arrival.
  • No authorised Western stockist was found for any of the six labels across Nordstrom, Farfetch, Net-a-Porter, Ssense and the other majors. That is a documented negative rather than a proven absence.
